Tough times call for tough measures. We’ll let the administration take care of that, but what tough times also call for, are more kindness. The food industry has been one of the hardest-hit sectors due to coronavirus.
We’ve compiled a list of things you can do to help your local restaurants and see them through these times of need.
Order from Them
This one’s a no-brainer. They give you sumptuous food cooked in clean kitchens, and in return, you give them money. A lot of restaurants have quickly adapted themselves to function in a manner that does not pose health risks to their customers. Placing the occasional weekly order, or dining out if you feel like it, at a local restaurant, could go a far way in helping them survive.
Don’t Ask for Discounts
Striking a good bargain always makes us happy, too. But asking for a discount from a business that’s struggling to make even a fraction of their usual sales doesn’t seem quite right. Buying items at their full price off a restaurant’s menu might just be the best way to help them out. Deep discounts offered by aggregators might increase their volume of sales, but it only pushes restaurants and smaller chains further into the corner of financial frustration.
Buy Coupons/Gift Cards
Many restaurants have started offering gift vouchers and coupons that can be claimed against meals once business resumes as normal. While it might take some getting used to, making a down payment for all the amazing meals you have had and will continue to have at your favourite restaurants isn’t such a radical idea, is it? It keeps the cash register ringing and gives them much-needed strength to carry on in challenging times.
Tip Servers/Delivery Persons
Restaurant staff and delivery persons usually get paid by the number of orders they complete. With restaurant sales down to all-time lows, their pays are bound to take a hit. Leaving a generous tip has never been as fashionable as it is right now. Go on, loosen those purse strings, it matters more than you think.
Leave Reviews
If you’ve ordered from a restaurant recently, or even if it’s been a while, there’s no better time than now to help boost their ratings (and sales) by leaving positive reviews on various websites if you’ve enjoyed their food. If you’d truly like to help, but really can’t spare the money right now, this is a great way of showing your support.
Donate to a Cause
There are some great organizations that are rallying resources to help the kitchen staff, waiters and delivery persons of restaurants make ends meet, some of whom have been completely abandoned by their employers and left to fend for themselves. These are hardworking people, out of jobs for no fault of theirs. You can buy them a meal kit, or a week’s groceries, or their children’s textbooks. You can reach out to an organization you like and let them guide you through saving someone’s life.
